This 250-acre oasis comprises virgin forest, formal gardens, wetlands, ponds, undulating hills, the Everett Children's Adventure Garden and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, which is a spectacular soaring crystal palace built in 1902.
Gateway National Recreation Area
Brooklyn
Gateway National Recreation Area was created by an Act of Congress in 1972 in order to bring parks and recreational facilities to people crowded in urban areas. Two of the sites, Far Rockaway, Queens, and Sandy Hook, New Jersey form the peninsular gate into the Raritan Bay and the ports of New Jersey and New York.
Staten Island
The Greenbelt Nature Center, in the heart of Staten Island, offers information, programming, events and access to the greenbelt's 35-mile network of hiking trails. The center is nestled in picturesque woodlands, yet near a major intersection and accessible by bus or car.
