Tracking new theater from around the world, the Under The Radar Festival 2012 (January 4–15) is produced by the Public Theater and features a mix of works by ensembles, solo artists, writers and creators.
In the festival’s seven years, there have been 104 productions from over 17 countries and the U.S., including Australia, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, France, Ireland, Mali, Mexico, The Netherlands, Russia and the UK.
Some artists who have collaborated with UTR include SITI Company, Elevator Repair Service, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Superamas, Abbey Theatre, Mike Daisey, Reggie Watts, Teatro De Los Andes, and many more.
Festival venues are the Public Theater, HERE, LaMaMa, Japan Society and the Wyoming Building (Goethe-Institut New York). To purchase tickets (events are $20-$25), see publictheater.org or call (212) 967-7555.
Similarly edgy programming in January can be found at the American Realness festival, which is more dance-oriented than Under the Radar.
