Japan Society presents a 12-hour day of concerts and language and arts workshops that benefit organizations that directly help people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
With dozens of music acts and performances throughout the day, there is something for all ages. Gala block concerts organized by John Zorn (and sold out as of April 4), include Philip Glass & Hal Willner; Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson and Zorn; and Ryuichi Sakamoto and Bill Laswell with Gigi band. Open concerts throughout day feature traditional and contemporary musicians, as well as the 8 pm concert that includes DJs. Concert for Japan also offers activities from learning Japanese phrases to making origami cranes and washi lanterns, to unlimited access to the exhibition Bye Bye Kitty!!!.
This event is a part of JapanNYC, a citywide festival exploring contemporary Japanese art.
