National Museum of the American Indian—Smithsonian Institution
This group tour highlights the architectural and historic detail of the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House. Designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1907, the former U.S. Custom House is a National Historic landmark. The building’s interior splendor includes an elliptical rotunda with a 140-ton dome designed by Catalonian engineer Raphael Guastavino and maritime murals by New York painter Reginald Marsh, as well as monumental arches, columns and marble inlays.
The museum features year-round exhibitions, dance and music performances, children’s workshops, family and school programs, film festivals and video screenings that present the diversity of the Native peoples of the Americas and the strength of their cultures from the earliest times to the present.
