The Music of the Modern Jazz Quartet
Fri, Apr 15, 2011, 7:30 pm - Sat, Apr 16, 2011, 11:59 pm
$55, $65
The Modern Jazz Quartet (1952-1974) was the greatest of all jazz supergroups, in which the classically-inspired compositional style of pianist John Lewis was counterbalanced by the bluesy approach of vibraphonist Milt Jackson. The distinctive music of The Modern Jazz Quartet survives the men who created it, as drummer Lewis Nash, NEA Jazz Master pianist Kenny Barron, vibraphonist Steve Nelson and bassist Peter Washington will demonstrate in this program of MJQ classics, including "Django" and "Bag’s Groove."
