As an introduction to the garden, there are audio and video presentations to acquaint the visitor with Chinese culture, as well as written materials that explain the meanings and nuances behind Chinese Scholar’s Gardens.
  • Directions: From Staten Island Ferry, take Bus S40 to Snug Harbor (7-minute bus ride). By car: Enter on Snug Harbor Road. On Cottage Row, within Snug Harbor Cultural Center.

The New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden is a replica of a typical scholar’s garden from the Ming dynasty. Part of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, the beautiful setting features authentic replicas of some of the most stunning gardens in mainland China.
