Alice Austen House Museum
Within this elegant gingerbread cottage is a permanent exhibit of photographs taken by Austen, as well as a resource room where visitors can peruse more than 400 additional Austen images. Two period rooms furnished in the Victorian style showcase some of the Austen family's furniture and heirlooms, as well as examples of the era's decorative arts. Revolving exhibits feature photographs by emerging contemporary artists.
This vine-covered Victorian cottage surrounded by gardens was home for almost 80 years to Alice Austen (1866-1952), a pioneer woman photographer. Exhibits offer a glimpse into the life and work of this fascinating individual.
