Federal Hall National Memorial
Here on Wall Street, George Washington took the oath of office as our first President. The site was home to the nation's first Congress, Supreme Court and Executive branch offices. Now, the building serves as a museum and memorial to our first President and the beginnings of the United States of America.
The building's Washington Inaugural Gallery teaches about our first president's inauguration. Models of the original City Hall and Federal Hall, as well as pieces of the actual building, are on view, as is the Bible upon which Washington swore the oath of office as the first President of the United States.
The building's second floor galleries mount exhibitions for all ages. These shows, curated by top galleries and museums, have included a New York City/Tokyo exchange show of children's art, a pictorial display of the city boroughs and an exhibit on daily life in Colonial America.
Self-guided tours of the building are available Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm. Free, park ranger-led tours are available Mon-Fri 10 and 11 am; 1, 2 and 3 pm.
Federal Hall has been the site of government activity for more than 300 years. There are regular guided tours and the galleries mount exhibitions for all ages.
