The gallery exhibits the work of emerging and nationally known artists working in a range of media. Exhibitions are usually in the form of group shows, some focusing on social themes, such as Transcending Boundaries, an investigation of the divisions between craft and art; Contemporary Woodturning, which explored the aesthetics of the turned object; and Sculpture in the Sky, for which six urban sculptors, granted the run of the Y's Midtown rooftop, created works in steel, aluminum, wood and ceramic. There are also periodic faculty and student shows highlighting work of the Y's Craft Students League. One unexpected discovery is the gallery's original Tiffany window.
