Ice Theatre of New York promotes figure skating as a performing art through both performances and educational programs. Its professional skaters collaborate with choreographers, musicians, writers and visual artists to create and perform new works. Among renowned guest artists who have skated with the company have been John Curry, Toller Cranston, Paul Wylie, Elena Leonova and Andrei Khvalko, Lucinda Ruh, Gary Beacom and Katherine Healy.

Founded by Moira North in 1984, the company has created a repertory of more than 60 works ranging from 12-skater ensemble dances to solos, duets and trios with music from virtually all periods. The company performs on proscenium stages as well as in traditional rink settings. The company has commissioned works from modern dance choreographers as well as ice choreographers.

Highlights from the repertory include Black Ice (Choreography: Donlin Foreman/Music: Ernest Bloch); Reflections (Laura Dean/Richard Kozinski et. al.); Transitions (Doug Webster/Philip Glass); Strike Up The Band (Lar Lubovitch/George Gershwin); Tango Images (Peter DiFalco/Tango Lessons); A Conversation with Angels (Joanna Mendl Shaw/Cam Millar); Creative Time (Moira North/Phil Kleine); Departures (Doug Webster/Gustave Mahler); Draughtman’s Contract (Elisa Monte/Michael Nyman) The Dreame (Jacqulyn Buglisi/Franz Liszt); and Red (Beth Woronoff/Heitor Villa-Lobos).
