The Performance Project @ University Settlement provides established, emerging and young artists and local audiences in the Lower East Side with opportunities to connect and enrich each others' lives.
While the type of work artists present may differ, what unites them is a set of shared values and beliefs including engaging youth and diverse communities in the arts.
Founded in 1886, University Settlement offers a season packed full of exciting emerging and established artists. All performances take place in intimate and historic Speyer Hall, a cultural landmark in the heart of the Lower East Side.
Programs for Seniors

- Space Rental: Speyer Hall, an intimate and historic space located in University Settlement's headquarters on Eldridge Street, is available for rent at low cost for performances, lectures and workshops. The Hall is a 35' X 60' fully-equipped theater, with a basic lighting system; PA system; 70 plush chairs on risers; a sprung wood floor; a backstage dressing area with crossover behind a stand-alone white wall ideal for projections; a projector and a baby grand piano. Maximum capacity is 175. We can provide up to a total of 125 chairs. No rosin or hard-soled shoes may be worn. Rehearsal Rates: * Performance: $125/hr * Technical and Dress Rehearsals: $100/hr * Lectures and workshops: $50--100/hour, depending on size of event * Rehearsals: $15/hr for packages of 6 or more NOTE: All hourly rates require a four hour minimum for booking For more information about renting the space please call 212-453-4532 or email afleminger@universitysettlement.org
