Instituto Cervantes is a nonprofit organization created by the Spanish government in 1991. Its mission is to promote the teaching of Spanish, and to contribute to the advancement of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

Foreign-language Programs
The teaching of the Spanish language and culture is the main part of its activities but the Instituto Cervantes has a lively calendar of cultural events that includes talks with writers, film screenings, art shows and concerts, among others. The public events are often in English and Spanish, and usually are free.
