A 131-year-old institute, the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), based in Long Island City, is the oldest and largest archaeological organization in the North America. The organization seeks to interest the general public in cultures and civilizations of the past, support archaeological research, foster the sound professional practice of archaeology, advocate the preservation of the world's archaeological heritage and represent the discipline in the wider world.
The AIA holds several free public lectures each year in New York. AIA’s publications include Archeology magazine, a 60-year-old magazine, and The American Journal of Archeology (AJA).
