Mainspring Collective is a group of theater artists devoted to the exploration and presentation of the experiences that drive people apart and pull them together.
It is currently based at the Brooklyn Lyceum, a landmarked performing arts venue and gym in Gowanus, Brooklyn. With the Lyceum, it co-produces an original children's series called Monster Literature.
Monster Literature is an action-packed and hilarious live theater series that celebrates great works of children's literature.
It follows the continuing adventures of 12-year-old Benjy Bleeglehorn, and her dashing sidekick Bravo Kirkwood, as they attempt to stop the evil wizard Zorlan Morlan from sending his monster armies into great works of children's literature. With each new adventure, there are new friends to be made, new stories to be fixed, and new lessons to be learned. These high energy performances run approximately 30 minutes, and incorporate original music, dance, masks and puppetry in order to provide an entertaining and educational experience for children ages five and up.
As Mainspring Collective and the Brooklyn Lyceum believe that quality children's programming should be both accessible and affordable, ticket prices are a recession friendly $5 per ticket, with group rates available.
