The four-screen BAM Rose Cinemas opened in 1998 to screen independent and foreign film new releases, making Brooklyn Academy of Music the only performing arts center in the country with two mainstage theaters and a multiplex cinema.

BAMcinématek, the daily, year-round repertory film program, opened in the summer of 1999. It presents new and rarely seen contemporary films, classics from movie history, works by local artists and film festivals.
