Rubin Museum of Art

The museum, which opened in October 2004, boasts a collection of more than 1,500 paintings and sculptures and other examples of art from the Himalayas and the surrounding regions dating from the 2nd to the 21st centuries. This 70,000-square-foot museum is also home to a large research library and a vast educational program. Through changing exhibitions and public programs, the Rubin Museum has become an international center for the appreciation and preservation of Himalayan art.

The exhibitions are organized in a way that appeals both to art connoisseurs and the general public. Exhibitions include the historical, social and political contexts of the works and ExploreArt areas provides visitors with a behind-the-scenes look at how the art was originally made. Recent exhibitions at the museum have included Bardo: The Tibetan Art of Death; Visions of the Cosmos; and From the Land of the Gods (Nepalese art).

The Rubin Museum also hosts lectures, panel discussions, film screenings and concerts.
