Bargemusic offers the most active chamber music program in New York. It does so in an unusual floating hall, actually a 102-foot barge once used by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. A pool of 100 or so players, many with sterling international reputations, return regularly to perform. An acoustically rich room seats 130. There are concerts every Thursday through Sunday year round. Every December Bach's Brandenburg Concerti are performed over a two-week period. Bargemusic is docked on the East River near the Brooklyn Bridge, next to the River Cafe. Spectacular views of the river and lower Manhattan serve as backdrop to performances.
