Founded in 1967, the Bronx Opera Company seeks to introduce the operatic experience to the uninitiated, while at the same time providing meaningful opportunities for outstanding performers to further their careers. A small company whose productions are always sung in English with a full chorus and orchestra, Bronx Opera presents one well-known and one seldom performed opera each season. The company also offers educational programs to Bronx public school students. These have consisted for the most part of a semi-annual morning children’s performance at Lehman College complemented by company visits to the classroom before and after the performance.
The company performs at Lehman College's Lovinger Theatre and elsewhere in New York City and Long Island. Performances are with a full chorus and orchestra.
