Founder Tina Ramirez established Ballet Hispanico in 1970 to provide dance training and performance opportunities for underserved Latino youth, and has since given a voice to Hispanic dance in America, transforming Ballet Hispanico into one of the nation’s ambassadors of Hispanic culture. Today, through performance, training, and education, Ballet Hispanico celebrates, shares and further interprets the aesthetics of these dynamic and diverse cultures with all communities.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, Ballet Hispanico explores, preserves and celebrates Latino cultures through dance. The professional company, the School of Dance and the Education & Outreach programs celebrate the dynamic aesthetics of the Hispanic diaspora, building new avenues of cultural dialogue and sharing the joy of dance with all communities.
The Ballet Hispanico School of Dance is rooted in Tina Ramirez’s original vision of a curriculum encompassing ballet, contemporary and Spanish dance techniques. The school offers a rigorous Pre-Professional Program and an Enrichment program with a rich variety of classes taught by a professional faculty of exceptional teachers. The flourishing Adventures in Dance program stimulates creativity and cultural awareness in young children. The school teaches more than 600 children.
The Ballet Hispanico Company has captivated audiences worldwide with its magnetic energy and eclectic choreography. Its 13 members perform works by Latino choreographers and other noted artists from around the world, fusing Latin dance with classical and contemporary forms. Company members are guest teachers at the School of Dance and engage in educational residency activities all over the country.
