Part of an international network of German cultural centers, the Goethe-Institut is sponsored by Germany's Foreign Office. It provides a varied schedule of exhibitions, film screenings, performances, classes and symposiums focusing on German language and culture, as well as exhibits of contemporary art.

Its library is open to the public and the in-house use of books, audio-visual media and information services is free of charge. Membership entitles patrons to borrowing privileges. 

Foreign-language Programs
Readings and talks occasionally take place in German; English translation is usually provided. German-language films include English subtitles. The Goethe-Institute collaborates with Deutsches Haus at NYU to offer German language courses.
