Exploring the art and craft of designing and making books, the center's exhibits range from the traditional to the unconventional. Some shows have celebrated common book structures, while others have confronted the viewer with books made of unexpected materials, like Plexiglas, hairnets and even concrete. One book previously on display was stored on a floppy disk and then self-destructed after a single reading. The center's workshop provides members with a fully equipped professional studio and ample space to print and bind books. Instructors teach courses in traditional and contemporary bookmaking at every level of proficiency. These include classes in letterpress and printmaking, papermaking and marbling and small press management.
