The Trisha Brown Dance Company was founded in 1970 after Trisha Brown left the experimental Judson Dance Theater to work with her own group of dancers. The company offered its first performances at alternative sites in SoHo. Brown's many artistic collaborators have included Robert Rauschenberg, Donald Judd and Laurie Anderson.

A MacArthur genius grant recipient, Brown is considered one of America's foremost modern dance choreographers. Today, the company performs regularly in theaters around the world. Trisha Brown's sinuous, loose-limbed style inspires many modern dancers who study release technique. The company and its former dancers teach repertory and technique class in New York and around the world.
