Design Trust projects are partnerships between private and public sector design professionals for innovative investigation of design/development issues in the open space, public architecture and infrastructure of New York City. It awards fellowships to private sector designers in all fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, real estate and graphic arts, who are responsible for all aspects of project management. The pairing of fellows with public partners, who may be city agencies or nonprofit public advocacy and community groups, leads to a uniquely creative design process that typically culminates in a publication. The Design Trust also sponsors public programs, ranging from panels attended by broad audiences to small, invited forums. These public events are often a means of amplifying project results, and a project will typically include at least one, but the Design Trust also sponsors programs to help move other worthy public space initiatives forward.
