Amid the houses and apartment buildings of Floral Park, Queens, sits the Queens County Farm Museum, a 17th-century farm with ducks, geese, sheep and apple and pear orchards. The only working historic farm in New York City, this 47-acre spread has been the site of continuous cultivation for over 200 years and is also a museum chronicling the agricultural history of New York City.

The 18th-century farmhouse is in the Dutch-Flemish style featuring four-foot eaves, handsplit shingles and window sashes. Inside are plank floors, wainscoted walls and beamed ceilings. The outbuildings, which date from 1927 and are probably the last farm buildings constructed in Queens, include greenhouses, a potting shed, a wagon shed, a barn and a brooder house. The farm was started in 1772 by Jacob and Catherine Adriance. It was bought and sold thereafter by various families of Dutch descent. New York State purchased it in 1926 for use by adjoining Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital.

In 1975, after the state declared the farm to be excess land, residents formed a coalition to save it from development. Special events here include agricultural and craft fairs, Native American pow wows, apple festivals and antique car shows. In addition to providing tours of the farmhouse, the museum offers a variety of special events and educational programs.
