World Monuments Fund

Founded in 1965, the World Monuments Fund is a watchdog organization committed to the preservation of threatened art and architecture in sites around the world. Every two years the fund publishes the World Monuments Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites, in an effort to focus attention on particularly imperiled sites and raise funds for their protection. The World Monuments Fund collaborates with local organizations near sites such as Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia and the Nimrud and Nineveh Palaces in Iraq.  In 1988 the fund organized the Jewish Heritage Grant Program, which funds the preservation of endangered Jewish sites, particularly those associated with the Holocaust.
