The center's Billie Holiday Theatre offers a 36 to 40 week performance season yearly, which includes three major productions by Brooklyn's only professional black repertory company. Restoration Dance Theatre offers classes in African, Caribbean, jazz and modern dance from October through June taught by accomplished choreographers. For more than a decade, the Marie Brooks Pan Caribbean Dance Company has been the guest resident company here.

The Skylight Gallery features exhibits of established and emerging artists of African descent, such as painter James "Jimmy" Green, sculptor Chief Komalafe, and painter and Lee Krasner Fellowship recipient Jewel Golden. Designed by I. M. Pei, the main gallery houses the Abra-Ka-Zebra gift shop, which features the works of contemporary craft artists.
