Founded in 1953, Queens Symphony Orchestra (QSO) is the borough’s only professional orchestra and the oldest and largest professional arts organization in Queens. QSO is made up of professional, union musicians who also perform on Broadway, with the New York City Ballet and with other freelance orchestras. The orchestra was founded and first conducted by David Katz, father of City Council Member Melinda Katz. The current music director, Constantine Kitsopoulos, is in his third season with QSO. Maestro Kitsopoulos is in a rare position in the orchestral world in that he is only the third music director in the history of Queens Symphony Orchestra. The mission of QSO is to bring the best in classical, chamber, pops and arts-in-education to the residents of the international borough of Queens.

QSO programs include the brand-new QSO Arts & Music Festival, and Concerts on the Green—free summer parks in Queens parks and various community-based locations.

The Music on the Move! Chamber Series features a variety of music and ensembles, free of charge, in venues such as Queens libraries, schools, cultural, senior and community centers.

Symphony 101 is a new educational series, geared towards adults, held at various Queens public libraries. This free series of music lectures will be taught by QSO Music Director Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Programs for Seniors
The orchestra offers instrumental quartets, trios, duos and solo performances as well as workshops for senior centers.

Free Performances
Our 3 QSO Arts & Music Festival concerts, Symphony 101 workshops, The Music on the Move! Chamber Series and Concerts on the Green concerts are free to the public.
