Aims of Modzawe

Aims of Modzawe Cultural Center was founded in 1970 by Nana Yao Opare Dinizulu to teach African history and culture. It is home to the Dinizulu Dancers, Drummers & Singers; the African Diaspora Children's Museum, which offers study in African history and culture by way of after-school and evening programs; and the Program in African Dance, which provides basic instruction as well as master classes. Also on offer are lecture series, instruction in African music, languages and arts and crafts; movies by filmmakers of African descent and an exhibition program. This vine-covered Victorian cottage surrounded by gardens was home for almost 80 years to Alice Austen (1866-1952), a pioneer woman photographer. Exhibits offer a glimpse into the life and work of this fascinating individual.

All Stars Project/Castillo Theatre

American Folk Art Museum

Having sold its building on West 53rd Street to the Museum of Modern Art , the museum remains open at Lincoln Square. It celebrates the artistic accomplishments of mostly self-taught artists. The collection spans three centuries of American visual expression, from quilts to contemporary sculpture.
