Recess proposes a new model that fuses public space, studio space and exhibition space. Artists are given residencies in SoHo, Manhattan, and Red Hook, Brooklyn. The spaces are open to the public and free of charge.
The public can visit resident artists during public hours, connecting through participatory or performance-based activities. If the artist happens to be absent when the space is open to the public, his/her presence is implied by the site-specific, workshop environment of his/her work in process.
