Bronx County Historical Society

The society maintains the Bronx County Research Library and Archives and hosts educational programs, walking tours, exhibitions and lectures on the history of the only mainland borough. It also operates the Valentine-Varian House, in which the Museum of Bronx History is located, and the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage.

Brooklyn Children’s Museum

A menagerie of resident animals and a permanent collection of more than 20,000 natural science objects and cultural artifacts enliven exhibits and presentations at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

Brooklyn Historical Society

The Brooklyn Historical Society is a nationally recognized urban history center dedicated to preserving and encouraging the study of Brooklyn's 400-year history. Its galleries and archive are housed in a magnificent landmark building.

Brownsville Branch-Brooklyn Public Library

Mon, Wed & Fri: 10 am-6 pm Tues: 1-8 pm Thurs: 1-6 pm Sat: 10 am-5 pmWith a collection of 7,000 books donated by the Hebrew Educational Society, the branch opened in 1905. In 1908, it moved to its present two-story brick and limestone Carnegie building. Its high usage spurred the 1914 construction of Brownsville Children's Library on nearby Stone Avenue, the first library in the world devoted exclusively to children. Bushwick Branch-Brooklyn Public Library

Mon: 1-8 pm Tues, Wed & Fri: 10 am-6 pm Thurs: 1-6 pm Sat: 10 am-5 pmThe library moved to its present home in a Carnegie library in 1908. A Carnegie library is one built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. By 1919, nearly half of the 3,500 libraries in the United States had been constructed through his grants. For more information, click here.
