    The Metropolitan Opera opens its 2015-16 season with Verdi’s masterful Otello, inspired by Shakespeare’s play and matching it in tragic intensity. Director Bartlett Sher probes the Moor’s dramatic downfall with an outstanding cast: tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko plays the doomed Otello; new soprano star Sonya Yoncheva sings Desdemona, Otello’s innocent wife and victim; and baritone Željko Lučić plays the evil Iago, who masterminds Otello’s demise. Dynamic maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

    ROY LICHTENSTEIN: Greene Street Mural

    In December 1983, Lichtenstein created Greene Street Mural, an unprecedented, site-specific, and temporary wall painting measuring 18' x 96 1/2' at the Castelli Gallery at 142 Greene Street. In accordance with Lichtenstein's intention, the work was destroyed after the six-week show. More than thirty years later, Gagosian will present to a new generation of viewers a full-scale painted replica of the original work, based on documentation from Lichtenstein's studio.

    According to the Morgan Library & Museum, this is the "first ever major museum exhibition devoted to the work of Ernest Hemingway, one of the most celebrated American authors of the 20th century." The exhibition includes multiple drafts of Hemingway's earliest short stories, notebooks, heavily revised manuscripts and typescripts of his major novels -- The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls.
