    Cambalache (from a Spanish word that means “exchange”), is a group of musicians from East Los Angeles who play son jarocho music from Veracruz, Mexico, a cultural region shaped by Indigenous, African, and Spanish culture. Cambalache promotes traditional son jarocho music in the spirit of the fandango, a traditional community celebration with music and dance destined to bring audience members of all ages to their feet. Join Cambalache for two Cinco De Mayo performances at Flushing Town Hall.

    Artist Aaron Fowler (b. 1988, St. Louis, MO) creates elaborate assemblage paintings from discarded found objects and unconventional materials sourced from his local surroundings. Through intuitive layering of castoff furniture, oil and acrylic paint, and collaged elements including iridescent CDs, water bottles, LED lights, sneakers, and plastic bags, Fowler meticulously constructs hybrid tableaux infused with a sense of raw urgency.     Limón Dance Company’s engagement showcases the resilience of the human spirit. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Missa Brevis, Limón’s masterful evocation of a community rebuilding, the Company unites with international dancers. Also included are Artistic Director Colin Connor’s The Body is a House Without Walls, addressing the regenerative power of memory; and The Unsung, Limón’s homage to Native Americans. The Limón Dance Company’s tour at the Joyce Theater will run from May 8 through May 13.
