As part of Pride month in New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a series of events, performances, discussions, and workshops in celebration of The Costume Institute exhibition Camp: Notes on Fashion, on view at The Met Fifth Avenue through September 8, 2019, and in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The highlight of The Met’s Pride festivities is a vogueing competition staged on The Met’s iconic plaza and front steps featuring some of ballroom’s fiercest competitors. On June 11, during Museum Mile, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., Battle of the Legends: Vogueing at The Met invites six competitors—Asia Balenciaga, Bootz Prodigy, Dashaun Lanvin, Omari Mizrahi, Tamiyah Mugler, and Ty Ebony—to perform. Jack Mizrahi, ballroom scene notable and co-founder of House of Mizrahi, chose the participants. Competition judges will include Twiggy Garçon, executive producer of Kiki; Jordan Roth, president of Jujamcyn Theaters; Jose Xtravaganza, Father of the House of Xtravaganza; and Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue and Artistic Director of Condé Nast. The performances will culminate in the selection of a crowd favorite and a grand prize winner—the “Legend Slayer.”
