Beatríz Santiago Muñoz’s show, A Universe of Fragile Mirrors, will consist of films playing continuously in a room full of mirrors, portraying Muñoz’s own interpretation of the reality in the Caribbean.

As a Puerto Rican artist, Muñoz specializes in creating video works that explore Caribbean environments, politics, and identity—specifically in Haiti and Puerto Rico— that counter stereotypical depictions of the region and its culture. Muñoz focuses on indigenous cosmologies, post-military spaces, and syncretic religions from the Caribbean, and in her videos, Muñoz utilizes a time-based durational style, using participants who are not professional actors, but everyday people who have direct experiences with the sites portrayed in her works.
