The 92nd Street Y’s Harkness Dance Center is an epicenter for the art form throughout the world, thanks to its pioneering history in dance. And now the world comes to 92Y for the “Harkness Dance Festival 2020: Passport to Dance.” Over five weekends, “Passport to Dance” features five influential choreographers from Korea, Canada, Northern Ireland, Japan, and Spain, each bringing a work never seen before in the US. This makes “Passport to Dance” the first all-international Harkness Dance Festival. Innovative contemporary dance is represented by Korea’s Jaewoo Jung and Braveman, Canada’s Catherine Gaudet/Daniel Lévéille Danse and Northern Ireland’s Oona Doherty; Japan’s Kazu Kumagai brings improvisatory and masterful tap; and Spain’s Sara Cano pushes the boundaries of flamenco by incorporating Japanese butoh and Israeli rikudim folk dance, closing the Festival.
