Now on view at the Jewish Museum, Modigliani Unmasked is the first exhibition in the United States to focus on Amedeo Modigliani’s early work made in the years after he arrived in Paris in 1906. During this period, Modigliani largely stopped painting to focus on drawing and sculpture to develop his conceptual and pictorial ideas. Seen within the scope of his brief fourteen-year career, this early work reveals what may have motivated Modigliani to develop his unique style of portraiture.
