Join the MoMA’s Chief Curator of Film, Rajendra Roy, for their first online exhibition, “Virtual Views: Home Movies.” Inspired by MoMA’s gallery exhibition “Private Lives Public Spaces,” they’re celebrating one of the largest bodies of moving image works in the world: home movies. The series focuses on the pre-video, 20th-century phenomenon of amateur filmmaking, which was unique in its ability to capture truly intimate moments. These demonstrate both remarkable aesthetic and emotional power. From all walks of life and richly diverse backgrounds, home movies provide a vital window into our collective humanity.

Watch nine films from MoMA’s Private Lives Public Spaces exhibition, with commentary from the curators.
