The former school building now features a Nautical Room with exhibits on the island’s maritime ties, such as ship building and oystering. The Community Room chronicles local history through objects ranging from arrowheads to christening robes to typewriters. In the hallway are photo essays on City Island culture, bridges, old houses and historic buildings, ship building and America’s Cup yacht racing. The society’s library is full of books on maritime life, island history and ledgers of ships made and real estate sold on the island. One room in the former schoolhouse displays photographs of past graduating classes as well as artifacts such as books, desks and an old school bell.
