World-renowned choreographer Paul Taylor has been a dominant force in modern dance for nearly six decades. His company presents dances from his ever-growing collection of more than 130 works, made from 1954 to the present. These dances—comedic and dramatic explorations of movement—showcase the athleticism of the 16-member Company and that of the six-member Taylor 2.
Many of Taylor's works deal with popular culture and are suitable for all ages. A few of his "darker" works are better suited to youngsters 10 and older. Taylor 2 provides such outreach in public schools as lecture/demos and movement classes to familiarize students with modern dance technique in general and Taylor style in particular.
Taylor 2, the outreach company, performs the works of Paul Taylor in schools and community centers. Residencies are flexible and include children's and family performances, open rehearsals, master classes, lecture-demonstrations, pre- and post-performance discussions or a showing of a 13-minute videotape on Taylor's choreography and career.
Taylor 2 performs Taylor's masterworks in versions for six dancers in smaller venues, and teaches Taylor's style through master classes and residencies throughout the country.
