Inside Broadway is a professional children’s theater company committed to producing classic Broadway musicals in a format especially suited for young audiences.
Musical adaptations are presented in public schools throughout New York and during the company’s Weekend Family Series at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. These performances date back to 1982 and are augmented by the Teaching Artist Residency Programs, which seek to enrich core curriculum subjects through drama, dance and music. The Theater Demonstration Program introduces children to the elements of a Broadway production.
Other programs include Shakespeare, in which students participate in the study of text and character through a variety of theater exercises; the Storytelling and Folktale program, in which students present favorite stories, poems, or dramatic texts; the Dance Around the World program, wherein students learn the music and choreography of one of Inside Broadway’s productions; and the Intro to Musical Theater program, which gets students writing their own theatrical monologues and scenes.
