The City Island Branch of the New York Public Library is located in the center of a mile-long island off the coast of the Bronx in the Long Island Sound. It has served City Island since 1911, opening at its current location in 1970. The branch has separate reference and children's sections, and a backyard reading garden for summertime children's story hours. A new community room can accommodate 45 people for programs and meetings. The branch is fully accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
