One of the city's leading community music schools, Bloomingdale School of Music offers excellent instruction for children and adults. It also serves as a vital performance center for the Upper West Side, presenting concerts of classical and contemporary music from around the world.

After-School/Saturday Program: Bloomingdale's most extensive educational program provides private and group instruction for everyone—from small children to adults—:in more than 25 musical instruments. The repertory is eclectic; students may explore classical, popular, jazz and rock music. Advanced and pre-conservatory courses exist for the talented and seriously motivated. However, those for whom music is a hobby or extracurricular activity will also find a welcoming, supportive atmosphere here. The very young will enjoy Baby's First Music Class and Music and Movement. Older children will be attracted to the Junior Vocal Ensemble and the children's chamber music program. Adolescents may find the Bloomingdale Jazz Ensemble, Latin Jazz Ensemble or Chamber Music Program of interest. The school has a scholarship fund for students in financial need.

Teacher Workshops: Bloomingdale offers teacher training courses in the Carl Orff method of education. In the courses, teachers learn to employ song and movement to enhance their classroom curricula and to encourage the overall development of their students. The method also provides a positive means of expression for otherwise shy or disruptive children.

Public School Orff Schulwerk Program: This program brings elementary school classes from School District 3 to Bloomingdale once a week. Certified Orff Schulwerk instructors lead the children in age-appropriate songs, movement and related activities.
