Atlantic Theater Company is an award-winning Off Broadway theater dedicating to producing great plays simply and truthfully, utilizing an artistic ensemble. Since its inception in 1982, the company has produced more than 100 plays, including the hit musical Spring Awakening, the Tony Award-winning production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh, and the 20th Anniversary Broadway revival of David Mamet's Speed-The-Plow. During its history, Atlantic has received 12 Tony Awards, 11 Lucille Lortel Awards, 14 Obie awards, 7 Drama Desk Awards and many others.

Atlantic Theater Company operates two theaters. The largest, in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, is a mid-sized thrust-stage housed in a Gothic Revival-style building. The second is a state-of-the-art black box space that functions as both a laboratory for new play development and a place to cultivate a new generation of American theater artists.

In addition to exciting productions of great plays, Atlantic also operates the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School, which includes both a private conservatory and an undergraduate program in conjunction with New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The school focuses on the Practical Aesthetics acting technique developed under the direction of playwright David Mamet and actor William H. Macy in 1983.



The theater offers tickets for classes to a main stage production with the opportunity to discuss the play afterwards with actors and directors.
