Founded by jazz impresario George Wein, CareFusion Jazz festival is the reincarnation of his JVC Jazz Festival—now with a new corporate sponsor and a scrappier, more musically diverse line-up. Formerly a Manhattan-centric series of mostly big-ticket shows at large venues, the festival—the largest summer jazz happening in New York—now holds gigs at concert halls, clubs, parks, museums and libraries of all sizes across all five boroughs. Long-established jazz talent such Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett and Chris Botti holds down the big halls while younger, up-and-coming musicians present at more modestly-sized jazz clubs and performance spaces.
