Home to the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA), Flushing Town Hall presents high-quality, award-winning performing and visual arts programs, including theater, jazz, classical and world music, dance, puppetry arts, and family programs with interactive workshops. Flushing Town Hall offers unique and powerful education programs that meet both city and state learning standards for arts education, and we present programs for seniors, exhibitions, and free community events.
FCCA manages and programs historic Flushing Town Hall on behalf of the City of New York. Flushing Town Hall’s facilities include a 308-seat theater, a professional gallery, classroom, a garden that accommodates up to 200 people for outdoor events, and a gift shop that features work by Queens- and Long Island based artists. FCCA is a member of New York City’s prestigious 33-member Cultural Institution Group; and an Affiliate Member of the Smithsonian Institution.
Built in 1862 in Romanesque Revival style, the hall has served Flushing as an assembly point for Union recruits during the Civil War and as a bank, police precinct, jail, grand ballroom and courthouse. P. T. Barnum ran sideshows from the hall featuring Tom Thumb and other marvels.
Programs for Seniors
Flushing Town Hall offers programs for seniors at its location.
For over twenty years Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA) has been delivering innovative educational opportunities to youth, adults, and seniors throughout the Borough of Queens. We focus on providing quality arts education programming that nurtures all levels of artists and deepens the artistic experiences of every age and cultural group in our community.
Arts Education for Students :
FCCA currently serves approximately forty schools and over 6700 students annually in New York City. We offer workshops and/or residencies with qualified teaching artists who bring their expertise in visual arts, music, dance, and theater into the classroom. Student groups frequently come to Flushing Town Hall to view our visual arts gallery, enjoy a workshop, or take an interpretive walking tour of local landmarks that hold both local and national significance in American history. FCCA also provides a spectacular school-day performance series of award-winning music, dance, puppetry and theater artists from around the world that supports NYS Learning Standards and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Tickets are only $6.50 per student and include a free chaperone ticket for every 10 students tickets purchased, interactive Q&A between artists and students after each show, and free pre-show info packets to help prepare your students before they visit.
All of our educational programs and activities support the NYS Learning Standards in the Arts and vary, depending on content of the offering, in their ability to support English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Technology, and Physical Education. Our programs can also support the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts in Dance, Theater, Music, and the Visual Arts.
